ok, I was going to stay out of it, but when an issue goes on and on, and back and forth, you finally have to have your say.

Retouch or not to retouch, and the debate about what size models we should be showing in our magazines.

With the latest being Ricki-lee posing for the Women's Day, stating she prefers her curves to Jennifer Hawkins slender frame.

Should we be showing slender women like our Jen or representing the average size women, which according to Ricky Lee is size 14.
Sure lets represent the average size women, in her plus size, but what I want to know, is this a healthy size? We argue about showing the really skinny models as this can lead to eating disorders, yet are our plus size women considered overweight, and will this then lead to over eating? Isn't obesity already a rising issue in our society? Which is evident with programs like The Biggest Loser becoming popular...do we want women aspiring to be over weight....

Body Image
I agree with your comments mojo, that the media needs to project womens body image in the right way. What is deemed the average size could very well be because of the every growing obesity problem in Australia and the rest of the world. Ricki-lee is not helping the situation. Although Jen Hawkins is blessed with good looks and a great body and has very few flaws, I am pleased she has appeared naked and not retouched on the cover of Marie Claire which ultimately has stirred up a lot of media and attention to body image. Although she might not be the perfect role model (and then again who is) she has definitely encouraged discussion about the topic which is good. Bianca Dye who has since challenged the appearance of Jen with her our naked appearance in Madison has encouraged further debate and discussion into the topic which is great. I think both bodies are gorgeous and create a good balance of body image to the world. Ricki-lee should have not jumped on the bandwagon just because of the media hype the issue is currently receiving. Well it seems to appear this way. Maybe I am being too harsh on poor ole Ricki-lee and should applaud her feeble attempts to gain popularity because as feeble as they are it is still encouraging more talk.
