With Valentines Day in a few days time it gets me thinking, AGAIN, do we really need a specific day to celebrate Love? Is it just another day that has become commercialized?
The restaurants are packed, the florists are sold out, chocolate sales are high, jewellery stores richer and those tacky teddies holding hearts saying 'Be mine forever' are out in force. Oh and lets not forget all those girlie movies coincidentally been released at the cinemas just in time for that special day.
I would prefer to go out and enjoy the company of my loved one on a night where my partner isn't looking at the guy at the next table giving him a familiar nod as if to say 'I know mate, if I didn't take her out I wouldn't have heard the end of it!'
I would much prefer a gift on a day when I'm not expecting it than on a day when society is pushing for it. Bring back the spontaneity.
